📈 The Week Ahead (November 19th, 2025): Market Insights from HPK Provident Advisors
Conviction appears to be lacking in the equity markets this week, reflected in candlestick charts showing wide intraday ranges and long wicks. The S&P 500 peaked on October 28th and has been making lower highs and lower lows through Wednesday’s session. We’ve now violated the 50-day moving average, with the next major support at the 100-day moving average—coinciding with the October 10th lows around 6,540. In my view, that level represents a critical line in the sand that will determine whether this pullback remains shallow or evolves into something more significant. I’m also closely watching high-yield spreads, which are on the verge of breaking out.
With the government reopened, the release of key economic data will resume, starting with September’s non-farm payrolls tomorrow. Consensus estimates call for an increase of 50k. Given the dated nature of this report, a major market reaction is unlikely unless the number significantly misses or exceeds expectations. Unfortunately, it appears we won’t receive October payroll data, and November’s release will likely come after the next Fed meeting on December 10th. This puts the Federal Reserve in a challenging position. In my view, given recent signs of labor-market softness, a rate cut would still be justified—but the latest FOMC minutes show many members favor holding steady.
The largest AI chipmaker reported after the bell today, and the CEO’s commentary will likely play an important role in how both the company and the broader market trade in the days ahead. Expectations are elevated, but recent weakness across many AI names may set the stage for more constructive post-earnings price action. Overall, markets continue to grapple with mixed data, high valuations, and emerging risks. Still, this is historically a strong seasonal period, and we’ll continue to rely on technical levels and momentum indicators to help gauge the direction of the next big move.
