📈 The Week Ahead (February 27, 2026): Market Insights from HPK Provident Advisors

After a strong start to the week, the S&P 500 has given back ground and is now building on Thursday’s decline. This pullback brings the index to the lower bound of the ascending triangle pattern that has been forming for some time. For better or worse, this consolidation is becoming increasingly tight, suggesting we won’t have to wait much longer for a decisive breakout.

My bias remains to the downside, largely due to signs of a weakening labor market. That said, if investors determine the recent tech selloff is overdone, we could once again see mega-cap leadership drive the broader index higher. As has been the case throughout much of this cycle, direction may ultimately hinge on a handful of large-cap names.

On the economic front, it was a relatively light week. Producer Price Index (PPI) data came in notably hotter than consensus this morning, in contrast to the softer Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading earlier in the month. As I’ve mentioned before, January data can often be noisy and subject to seasonal distortions. This time, price pressures were primarily driven by services.

Perhaps the most significant development this week was earnings from the world’s largest semiconductor company. Despite delivering another exceptional quarter, the stock initially rallied post-earnings before quickly reversing lower. That shift from buying to selling, even on strong results, offers a valuable read on current investor sentiment—particularly within the technology sector.

Looking ahead, next week brings a meaningful uptick in economic data. We’ll receive ISM Manufacturing and Services reports, the Challenger Job Cuts report, the monthly employment data, and retail sales figures. With this influx of information, the technical breakout from the current pattern should become clearer by the end of next week. As always, time will tell.
