Our Cruise Experience: A Surprising Turn in Vacation Preferences

June 24, 2025

This past week, my fiancée Corinne and I set sail on a cruise departing from Port Canaveral. It had been about 25 years since my last cruise, so I truly had no idea what to expect. I used to tell people, quite confidently, that I wasn’t really a “cruise person.” I preferred to get straight to the destination rather than spend time traveling to it.

Well, that opinion has officially changed.

We had an incredible time. One of the biggest perks of cruising is that your vacation starts the moment you step on board—no long flights, no layovers, just instant relaxation. We booked a five-night Carnival cruise with two stops along the way.

Our first port of call was Grand Turk, where we went on an ATV excursion around the island. It was a really memorable experience, but the highlight for us had to be the wild donkeys roaming freely. We didn’t get any pictures (something we regret!), but it was a moment that made the trip feel truly unique.

At our second stop, Bimini, we chose to stay on the ship. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than enjoying a quiet day onboard while most of the passengers are off exploring. We took advantage of the calm atmosphere to relax and recharge.

Throughout the week, we caught a few shows, including a couple of comedy specials. Our favorite entertainment, though, was the karaoke nights and evenings spent at the piano bar—both lively and fun in a way that really brought people together.

All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and we’re already looking forward to booking our next cruise. If you’ve ever dismissed the idea of cruising (like I did), it might be worth reconsidering. You may be as surprised as I was.
