As the school year winds down and summer approaches, many of us are starting to plan vacations. If you have the opportunity to visit Alaska—take it. A cruise is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to experience the beauty of this breathtaking destination. One major perk of cruising? Your hotel travels with you. Along the way, you’ll enjoy abundant food and some of the world’s most awe-inspiring scenery.
For me, cruising is more than a getaway. It’s a time to unwind, step away from daily responsibilities, and gain a renewed perspective—one that reminds me how small we are and how magnificent God’s creation truly is.
Take Mt. McKinley, for example—also known as Denali. Seeing it in person is unforgettable. Rising more than 18,000 feet from base to summit, Denali reaches a total elevation of 20,310 feet, making it the tallest mountain in North America. For comparison, Mt. Everest rises about 12,000 feet from its base, while Hawaii’s Mauna Kea reaches over 33,000 feet when measured from its base on the ocean floor (most of it underwater). The name “Denali” means “The High One,” a fitting title for a peak that towers above surrounding mountains, which barely reach 14,000 feet. Denali is so massive it creates its own weather system—and its summit is visible only about 20% of the time. Only 30% of visitors ever get a clear glimpse of it. My wife, daughter, and I were fortunate enough to be among that lucky group.

We stayed in Talkeetna, a charming little town that serves as the gateway to Denali National Park and the basecamp for climbers. Talkeetna has its own quirky personality—including a cat who was once elected mayor—and is home to the famous Talkeetna Roadhouse Inn. Known for its hearty, carb-loaded meals (ideal for mountaineers and a guilty pleasure for the rest of us), the Roadhouse is a must-visit. I highly recommend the cinnamon roll—probably the best you’ll ever have.
Sometimes, your view of the financial future can feel just as unpredictable as mountain weather. At HPK Provident Advisors, our goal is to help bring clarity. We want you to see what we see: the financial “mountain” you’ve built, and the potential that lies ahead.
As always, thank you for your continued business and the trust you place in us.
